Organize a Darfur Diaries Screening

| Support the Project

Following are some guidelines and suggestions for organizing a screening of “Darfur Diaries”.

  1. Determine a date and a venue for your event:
    The format is a DVD, so you will need a venue with a DVD player, projector and sound system. If you want to preview the film before the event, it is available for rental at Hollywood Video and Netflix, or for individual purchase (which does not include screening rights) on amazon.com.
  2. Obtain the screening rights:
    Contact Nick from Cinema Libre Studios to obtain the rights to screen the film publicly or to purchase an institutional copy.
    Email: santillan@cinemalibrestudio.com
    Phone: 818-349-9922

    If you want to organize a “film plus lecture” event with the filmmakers, please contact Creativewell, Inc.
    Email: info@creativewell.com
    Phone: 1-800-743-9182

  3. Advertise your event:
    • Create contacts with community partners—the more schools, mosques, churches, synagogues, human rights groups, etc you have on board with you, the more the event will be embraced by and attended by the wider community;
    • Send an email to info@darfurdiaries.org with the following information so we can post your event on our website:

      Date and time
      City
      Address
      Contact person name
      Contact person email
      Contact person phone number;

    • Advertise your event on the Save Darfur Coalition website at http://www.savedarfur.org/page/event/create and The Nation website at http://www.thenation.com/events/
    • Send press releases to local press, utilize email networks, create postcards, etc.
    • Download a “Darfur Diaries” poster
  4. Raise funds:
    Consider raising funds for the Darfur Diaries Education Project, to support schools in the destroyed Darfurian villages where the film was made. More information about this initiative.
  5. Sell the book:
    Consider selling the companion book “Darfur Diaries: Stories of Survival” at the event. Contact a local bookstore, or, if this is a university screening, your campus bookstore, about selling the book at the screening.
  6. Sell the DVD:
    Consider selling the DVD of the film at your event—proceeds from the sales can go towards the people of Darfur, including the Darfur Diaries Education Project.
    There is a 40% discount on DVD price if you purchase 10 or more.
    Contact Nick from Cinema Libre Studios to purchase the DVDs:
    Email: santillan@cinemalibrestudio.com
    Phone: 818-349-9922
